Juvenile Division
The Juvenile Division of the Office of the Franklin County Prosecuting Attorney has two sections with different responsibilities.
Intake, located on the first floor of 399 South Front Street is staffed by assistant prosecuting attorneys who represent the State when a child makes his/her first appearance in Juvenile Court. These appearances are called preliminary hearings and are conducted in courtroom #2 at the same location. Intake will assist anyone who desires to file a complaint charging a child with a criminal offense, called a delinquency. There are some restrictions, so calling ahead could be helpful. The office is open from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 P.M. and can be reached at 614.525.7388.
The majority of the assistant prosecuting attorneys in the Juvenile Division work in the regular trial staff located on 13th floor of 373 South High Street. These assistant prosecuting attorneys represent the State in Juvenile Court where delinquency, status offenses, juvenile traffic offenses, and abuse, neglect and dependency cases are litigated. Included in the trial staff is a small gang unit that targets violent gang-related offenses. One Juvenile prosecutor is assigned to the Center for Child and Family Advocacy located at Children’s Hospital to provide immediate evaluation and advise for child victims and family members. This office is open from 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. and any victim and/or witness seeking information may call during open hours at 614.525.4440.
