This year’s audit of the County’s financial statements has been completed, and Franklin County's Annual Financial Reports for the year ending December 31, 2008 are now available. Click here to read the reports online, or to request copies.

Is it possible that you may have unclaimed funds held in your name? The County Auditor's Office offers an online search of currently held unclaimed funds. Monies held in the County Unclaimed Funds account include vendor payments, child support payments, restitution payments and jury fees.
If your name is listed, follow the instructions listed or contact us for assistance.

With the May 5 election approaching, property owners are reminded that they can view cost estimates for each tax levy appearing on the ballot. Based on each property's appraised value, the levy estimator shows the cost if approved, as well as the current cost for renewal or replacement levies.

I am pleased to announce that the Property Search program and the Auditor's GIS (Geographic Information System) program have now been combined and reconfigured for ease-of-use and added convenience.
New items have been added, such as the Area Sales Activity feature that provides local sale data for properties within a selected area. A new-look Property Summary offers added data, while the new Property Profile provides additional property attributes.
GIS maps offer a variety of data, including lot lines, lot dimensions, building footprints and flood zones. Customized theme maps and reports are also available.

The homestead application period is open the first Monday in January through the first Monday in June annually. Senior citizen and disabled homeowners who were eligible for the homestead exemption in 2008 and missed the June 2, 2008 deadline can apply for the homestead exemption for tax year 2009 and future years, as well as for a reduction in the 2008 taxes (to be credited later in 2009). The renewal period begins Monday, December 1 st and continues through Monday, February 2 nd (since January 31st lands on a weekend); the fees double after that date. For your convenience, you may purchase the licenses online.

"What will that levy cost me?"
Several issues will be decided in the upcoming November 4 General Election. Property owners can again see their monthly estimated costs for the proposed levies on our website.
To access the information, go to our Property Search. Search by name, address or parcel number. Once the parcel data appears, select the "levy info" tab on the left-hand side for the estimated costs of the levies that could affect your real estate taxbill.
Levy cost estimates can also be obtained by calling the Real Estate Hotline at 462-HOME.

STORM DAMAGED PROPERTIES COULD BE ELIGIBLE FOR TAX RELIEF
State law gives County Auditors the authority to reduce real estate values for properties that have been damaged or destroyed. A substantial reduction in property value will result in lower real estate taxes for the property.
You can download the application for a property value reduction. Timing is important, so please complete and submit the form as soon as possible. For additional information call (614) 462-HOME.

The tentative results of the 2008 triennial update are available. Click on the link below to see your tentative value. Residential values have remained the same as 2005 unless changes were made to your property. SURPLUS DECLARED!
I am pleased to annouce that I have again declared a surplus in the Auditor's Real Estate Assessment fund. This action is the result of our cointinuing efforts to more efficiently and less expensively perform the appraisal and related duties requried of this office. Since 1994 I have surplused more than $27.35 million to schools, social service agenices, libraries, etc.

The Franklin County Comprehensive Annual Financial Report and the more focused Popular Annual Financial Report for the fiscal year ended December 31, 2007 are now available. Click here to view. The Government Finance Officers Association has given Franklin County an award for financial reporting for the last 24 consecutive years. We believe our financial reports continue to conform to the award program requirements and have submitted the current year reports to the GFOA.

Turning 65 in 2008? Don't forget to register for the homestead exemption credit on your real estate taxes. Applications for the 2008 tax year must be received in our office by June 2. All qualifying homeowners receive a flat $25,000 property tax exemption on the market value of their home. Click here for further information and an application.

January 31 is the deadline for renewing dog licenses. All dogs three months of age and older must be licensed and renewed annually. Licenses can easily be obtained through our website.

Springtime brings warmer weather and draws us and our pets outdoors which increases the risk of our four-legged friends straying away from their homes.
Our web site can help reunite lost dogs with their owners. The Dog E-Bulletin Board contains postings of local lost and found dogs, and a dog license look-up provides important information if you find a dog wearing its Franklin County license. Additional dog-license information is available by calling 462-3260.
