HomesteadThe Homestead Exemption is a statewide program administered by the County Auditor that offers qualifying homeowners a reduction on their real property or manufactured home taxes. The primary responsibilities of the homestead section are to assist taxpayers with the Homestead Exemption application process as well as maintain and update existing application records. There were 11,341 homeowners in Franklin County who were granted the reduction on their 2006 real property taxes and 407 manufactured home owners who were granted the reduction on their 2007 mobile home taxes for a total reduction in taxes of $4,597,790.12 during calendar year 2007. ^Top LicensingThe Licensing Section administers the sale of licenses for cigarette dealers, dogs, junkyards, kennels and vendors. Annually, the quantity of dog licenses sold in Franklin County well exceeds all other licenses processed. Approximately 87,000 dogs were licensed in 2005. Of special note in Franklin County - we request information regarding rabies vaccinations in conjunction with the purchase of a dog license as a safety precaution. ^Top Weights and MeasuresThe County Auditor serves as the Sealer of Weights and Measures for businesses in Franklin County, excluding those located in the City of Columbus, and is responsible for the enforcement of all Ohio laws relating to weights and measures. The Auditor is required to see that these laws are strictly enforced and shall assist in the prosecution of violations within his jurisdiction. The Auditor appoints Deputy Inspectors to perform and carry out all required weights and measures duties. ^Top
