Bureau for Children with Medical Handicaps (BCMH)
The goal of Bureau of Children with Medical Handicaps (BCMH) is to assist children, under the age of 21(and their families), with special health care needs. BCMH has several programs to serve children which include coordination of services, linkage with quality care and financial assistance for the medical care of eligible children with medical handicaps. The Health Department works closely with BCMH to identify needs and increase services to children with handicaps. Some of the services provided by the Public Health Nurses are:
- identification and referral of children with potentially handicapping conditions
- service coordination
- advocacy
- public health nurse home visits to assist families in obtaining and coordinating services
- coordination and staffing of BCMH-sponsored specialty field clinics.
