Car Seat Program

Motor vehicle crashes are the number one cause of death for children ages one to fourteen. Child safety seats reduce the risk of fatal injury by 71 percent for infants and 54 percent for toddlers.

Ohio law requires that children ride in a car seat until they are at least four years of age and 40 pounds. The Franklin County Board of Health is able to distribute child safety seats to low income families in Franklin County. The seats are distributed at no cost through the Ohio Buckles Buckeyes Program of the Ohio Department of Health. The program is designed for families with babies and small children who have outgrown their infant seat.

You must attend a two hour class to obtain a seat. Classes are held at the Franklin County Board of Health. A Certified Child Passenger Safety Technician will teach the class and help install the child safety seat.
