Franklin County Board of Health SWAT Team
Let’s Say NO to the Mosquito
Educational Materials for Kids
It’s mosquito season again and the Franklin County Board of Health has developed mosquito educational materials for kids. These materials are designed to spread the message that kids can protect themselves from mosquitoes and the diseases they carry. Our goal is to keep the community safe and healthy.
The program is intended to be delivered by a Board of Health staff member in a forty-five minute presentation. Our staff is available to present at camps, classes, church groups, scout groups, etc. in the Franklin County communities we serve. The program is available April through September. The program is best suited for children in grades 2 through 5. The presentation will include:
- Review of the lifecycle of the mosquito
- An interactive worksheet to identify larval habitats
- Information on how students can protect themselves from mosquito bites
- SWAT Team pledge and pin
- A short video will also be shown if possible
You may use the materials on your own as well. The materials include:
The Mosquito Menace DVD – This is a fun and fast paced 15-minute video all about mosquitoes. This is available on request from the Franklin County Board of Health.
The Habitat Seek and Find - Kids have an opportunityto hunt for mosquito habitats on this worksheet. It teaches kids to look for places that collect standing water around theirhome.
Word Search – This word search will familiarize kids with words that relate to mosquitoes.
SWAT Team Pledge Card – Kids have any opportunity to become part of the SWAT Team by taking this simple pledge. Kids commit to get rid of standing water around their home and protect themselves from mosquitoes. SWAT Team members will also get a wallet card, so they are official.
SWAT Team Button - Each kid will receive a button to designate that they are now a member of the SWAT Team and ready to take on mosquitoes.
