Theraputic Arts Program (TAP)

Abuse and neglect can sometimes shatter lives. But thanks to the Therapeutic Arts Program (TAP), abused and neglected children are turning their trauma into triumph. Through the journey of non-traditional therapy, children in the TAP program learn to express their feelings and experiences through the use of dance, song and drama. Their destination is simple - healing.

Group therapy is provided to youth between the ages of 13-18. Special activities are offered throughout the year for youth ages 10-12. Groups are non-traditional in nature, in that visual and performing arts are used as a main treatment modality to increase self-awareness, self-esteem, and self-reliance. Various traditional treatment modalities are also used. Issues such as child abuse, drug and alcohol abuse, abandonment, parent/child conflict, adoption and violence are discussed during group. TAP may also qualify for high school internship hours because of the public service provided. Youth can further enhance their growth and development, thus aiding them in becoming responsible adults.

Youth Artwork Wins Praise at Art Show

Children under the care of Franklin County Children Services displayed a variety of artistic and creative talents at the agency's annual Art Exhibit and Silent Auction. Youth who participated are available for adoption, in foster care or in the Therapeutic Arts Program (TAP). The two-week exhibit showcased 135 pieces of art. Youth incorporated their feelings, thoughts and experiences in various creations, including paintings, drawings, photographs, jewelry, and flower arrangements. The art contest was competitive and entrants were judged for best overall, most original, and best in show. The silent auction raised more than $1500 which was donated to the Franklin Village Children's Fund. Click here for more photos.
