4th of July Safety Tips

Don't let your pet become frightened by fireworks.
Plan ahead, and keep your pets safe.

  • Leave Pets At Home

Don't take your pets to watch fireworks! You will enjoy them, but he won't!

  • Don't Leave Pets Outside

Dogs often become frantic trying to escape the noise. They will run away, climb fences, break leashes and do all sorts of things they wouldn't normally do.

  • Exercise Pets Early in the Day

Take your dog for walk early in the day, before the fireworks begin, so he'll be tired and ready to snooze before all the excitement begins.

  • Keep Pets Indoors in a Quiet Room

Find a quiet spot, away from outside sounds. Close the windows and blinds, and use an air conditioner or fan. Turn on the TV or radio to help drown out the noise from fireworks.

If you pet has a history of nervous behavior around loud noises, talk to your vet in advance about prescription medications to reduce anxiety.

  • Make Sure Your Dog Has ID Tags & License Attached to his Collar!

Check his collar NOW, before he has a chance to get lost. Make sure your ID tag has your current address and phone numbers. And make sure his dog license is attached, so we can easily identify him and return him to you.

If your dog does become lost, please visit the shelter immediately to look for him and file a lost dog report. Check back daily until you find your dog. New lost dogs are brought in throughout the day.
