None of these dogs would be here today without your generous support!!!
Every year we rescue hundreds of nice dogs like these with special medical or treatment needs. They all have treatable illnesses that can be fixed with a little more time, money and TLC. However these expenses are not funded with public monies, so Friends of the Shelter contributes thousands of dollars each month for their care.
You can help by sponsoring one of these dogs to give it the chance for health and happiness that every dog deserves. Please donate to Friends of the Shelter! Your donations to FOTS are tax-deductible.
Additional expenses for special needs dogs are made possible by a grant from Maddie's Fund®, www.maddiesfund.org.
An absolutely incredible dog ... her snuggling ways, her happy bouncy spirit, and her unconditional love will endear her to even the toughest of critics. And what is most impressive of all is that she does all this through constant pain as her hips pop in and out of their joints with each step, the result of a severe case of hip dysplasia which she has endured for years.
Thanks to the generosity of FOTS donors, however, Liv is going to get the chance to know life without constant pain following a surgery which will stop her joints from grinding and popping with her every move.
Crate-trained, housebroken, very social, and good with everyone she meets. Good vet reference required. No kids under 8 years old. Olivia is in foster care while she recovers, please email Erin to meet her.
Cursed with a degenerative hip joint disease due to a lack of blood supply to his bones, Lincoln has been hobbling around on a painful right rear leg for many months, perhaps over a year.
Lucky for Lincoln, he found his way to the dog shelter and is now preparing to receive the surgery he needs thanks to the generosity of FOTS donors to free him from chronic pain and allow him to run and play as all dog should!
Lincoln can be a bit shy at first, but he is all wiggles and tail wags once he gets to know you and is quite a little flirt! Truly a wonderful companion. Crate-trained & housebroken. Vet reference required & no children under 10.

Five Lucky Puppies! These guys are a product of an unwanted litter that then contracted the deadly parvovirus and then were dumped at the shelter. It was a rough start indeed! But, through the dedication of our volunteers and the generosity of FOTS, all 5 were given the chance to make it and that is just what they did!
Although they are still in recovery, they are doing wonderfully and will be ready for new homes in early May. Good with dogs and cats. Vet ref req.
Thanks to Friends of the Shelter, these pups have a second chance! Please donate to FOTS to continue these programs.

I'M A SURVIVOR...of abandonment from my family and parvo! And now I am looking for someone to love me, care for me, keep me safe, and teach me how to be a GREAT dog! My picture shows you just how adorable I am, but what it does not show you is just how ornery I am...I am a go girl! I LOVE to spend my days playing and my nights snuggled up next to you. CT & working on HB. Vet reference required. Will be available for adoption after May 10th. Posh is in foster care, please email Erin to meet her!
A delightful sweet, shy girl who needs some gentle coaxing to help her come out of her shell. She got off to a rough start but has bounced back incredibly from parvo and pneumonia and is now looking for that special family to call her own. She's a playful pup at heart and enjoys the company of other canine companions, especially when there is a good game of chase going on. One of her favorite things is to stretch out in the cool grass and shimmy her belly along before taking off for another lap of fun. Working on CT & HB. Marla is in foster care. Please email Erin to meet her.
I'M A SURVIVOR ... of abandonment and parvo! And now I am looking for someone to love me, care for me, and teach me how to be a GREAT dog!
Pictures don't give my striking brindle body or my little nubbin' of a tail justice, but if you take the time to meet me in person, you won't be able to say no! I LOVE to play, especially with other pups who like to wrestle and tumble, but I am a cuddler with my person at heart. I can be a little shy at first, but give me a quick belly rub and squeeze and I'll be yours forever.
CT & working on HB. Vet reference required. Lola is in foster care, please email Erin to meet her.
I'M A SURVIVOR ... of abandonment and parvo! And now I am looking for someone to love me, care for me, and teach me how to be a GREAT dog! My picture shows you just how cute and photogenic I am, but what it does not show you is just how ornery I am!
I LOVE to play, especially with other pups who like to wrestle and tumble, but I have a snuggler side too. I am very attentive and love to learn, especially when there is food involved. Very social and would make a great family pet.

A spunky guy with a punkish streak who is in need of some gentle guidance and ongoing socialization. He's a tough guy who has successfully survived parvo and pneumonia and is now looking for his special someone. Very devoted and loving once he gets to know you but a little hesitant at first. Would make a great second dog with an experienced owner ... he loves to race around the yard with other pups. Highly food motivated and very trainable. Working on CT & HB.

Save These Puppies’ Legs!!
Surgery is possible, but we urgently need to funds to provide it. Both of these sweet little pups have injuries caused by a lack of medical care and the result for each is a painful, deformed leg that they are unable to use. But, they can grow up to live happy, healthy, pain-free lives if we can get them the orthopedic surgeries that they need.
Donate NOW to Friends of the Shelter to help us help them. Time is of the essence for these puppies. They are still growing, which is causing for further damage to the already compromised bones and ligaments in their leg. They NEED your help!
An absolutely wonderful, eager to please, affectionate fuzzball who is eager to please and ready to learn. Dweezle came to the FCDS as an unclaimed stray with a limp to his front leg. He needs orthopedic surgery to repair his leg.

Piper
Piper is a happy-go-lucky pup who has been dealt a rough couple of blows in her early days. Broken by her former home and then dumped at the dog shelter, Piper already had the odds stacked against her with a mismanaged compound fracture of her left front leg. But thanks to the generosity of FOTS, Piper found her way to an excellent surgeon who has given her back the use of her leg. Although she'll always have a 'character curve' to the front leg, it doesn't stop her from being a puppy and in fact, makes her even more entertaining to watch.
As Piper continues to heal and grow, she will need a little extra TLC to make sure her leg is not re-injured but should have no long term ill effects from this injury. Piper would love a family ready to play, play, play but who also will appreciate her snuggle bug side when it is time to rest. Vet reference required. No children under 8 years old. Fenced yard recommended.

Hopelessly devoted to the one who will save him! Redley came to the FCDS, an obvious product of neglect and full of heartworms. Although a little shy at first, his attempts to take his 80 pound body and strategically place it on one's lap earned him a second chance at life.
Thanks to the generous funding support of FOTS, Red has been able to undergo further diagnostic testing and treatment for his heartworm disease and is now recovering and regaining his strength so that he is fortified for the many years of fun that await him.
Red will make an awesome companion for that someone who is looking for a soulmate. Crate-trained & housebroken. Good with most other dogs, ok with cats, but quite content to be your one and only. No kids under 10. Vet reference required. Redley is in foster care, please email Erin to meet him!

Simply wonderful ... and ever so grateful! Maya came to FCDS after being plowed under by a car and left with a shattered rear leg to drag along behind her until she was befriended by a dog warden.
Ever so tolerant of being examined, lifted, and cared for by those around her, Maya was a definite 'keeper' and through the support of FOTS, has been through an extensive surgery to reconstruct her badly fractured leg and allow her to continue on in the future with the use of all four of her legs.
Her pathetic eyes and gentle kisses will endear you to her forever. Excellent temperment and very social with dogs, cats, and people of all ages. Crate-trained & nearly housebroken. Vet reference required.

They can't tell us what they are thinking or how they are feeling, but sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words ... just look into his eyes. Rory came to the FCDS as a unclaimed stray, obviously the product of abandonment. Had Rory been seen by a veterinarian as a younger puppy and received his vaccinations on the appropriate timeline, he would never be where he is now ... fighting for his life as his body tries to endure the devastation of the preventable intestinal virus known as parvo.
Because of the generosity of FOTS donors and the FOTS mission to provide necessary medical intervention to adoptable shelter dogs, Rory is getting the supportive care he needs to recover from this virus and will hopefully serve as a reminder to pet owners of the importance of having their pets vaccinated so as to avoid such an unnecessary tragedy.
Rory is ready for adoption, please email Erin to meet him!
An introvert at heart, this bouncy goofy girl is trying her best to overcome her lack of trust in exchange for ear massages and belly rubs! Slowly but surely, she is being won over and blossoms a bit more each day. After surviving parvo virus and pneumonia, this girl is looking for nothing less than a patient, gentle, social owner and another canine companion who will help her continue to grow and reach her full potential. Puppy classes and dog parks are definites in her future! Working on CT & HB.
Have you ever had one of those days? Well, Ashley’s was worse. This poor girl was found on the streets, pregnant and unable to walk. Thinking she had been hit by a car, Good Sams brought her to the shelter and we in turn took her for x-rays. No broken bones were found, but internal injury indicated she needed emergency surgery. Her puppies could not be saved, but luckily she was able to pull through. Thanks to FOTS, Ashley is live and well and has the most grateful attitude and gentle nature to remind us of just what a 'special' girl she is…
Ashley is an absolute sweetheart.

Gwen is alive only because of the generosity of foster parents, dedicated vets, and donations to FOTS. This sweet pup was found stray by one of our wardens, stoically hobbling down the street, dragging her broken back leg after being hit by a car, looking for someone to help her. Although her fracture was severe, her spirit was even stronger and after a few weeks of an immobilized leg and cage rest, Gwen's leg healed beautifully and she is now making up for her lost puppyhood, playing with others and jumping into her foster mom's lap for some snuggle time. Gwen is social with dogs, cats, and kids. CT and nearly HB. Definite agility potential. Privacy fence & vet reference required.

Dyna ADOPTED! She’s never had a real home to call her own; she’s been starved for food, water, and attention; she’s been hobbling around on a broken leg for weeks and weeks … and still, she is a happy-go-lucky puppy who is eager to play with anyone who will show her attention and determined to cuddle with any warm body that will snuggle with hers.
Dyna is currently in foster care trying to gain enough weight and strength to endure an operation which will rebreak her badly deformed leg and allow her to live a normal life for many years to come.
Dyna is only getting this chance to find a happy ending because of the generous donors who support FOTS and their mission to rehabilitate any adoptable dog.

Icon ADOPTED!! A wonderfully social, happy goofball who is appropriately playful and interactive with everyone he meets.
The victim of a hit & run car incident, Icon was fortunate enough to receive the time he needed to recover from head truama in our offsite infirmary program funded through FOTS and now is ready to find and join his forever family.
He has true Husky instincts, complimented by wit & loyalty. CT & HB. Breed experience & Vet reference required. Icon is in boarding, please email Erin to meet him!
Don’t be fooled by his age. Although he needed a dental (Thanks, FOTS!), Randy is healthy, active and ready to play. A happy-go-lucky, easy going, friendly guy who seems to love everyone he meets and sees the future with ever optimistic and hopeful eyes. Jackson came to FCDS in sad shape, obviously the product of neglect. His starved state left him physically weak with protruding bones and patchy hair, previous trauma left him to hobble around with a haphazardly healing back leg and hip socket that had been previously broken by excessive force.
It's been over two months since Jackson's arrival at FCDS and he is now 'presentable' for adoption and looking for a special home who will love him and care for him unconditionally.

Life should not be so bad, so much, for those so young. In her first ten weeks of life, Rachel has experienced abandonment on the streets, at least one very cold night under a dumpster in an dark alley without food or water, a near miss from being struck by a car ... and now, just as she was getting back on her feet and almost ready to go up for adoption, she has been dealt the final blow of parvo and pneumonia ... and still, we fight for her.
Because of the generosity of FOTS donors and the establishment of the offsite infirmary program, Rachel is getting the medical intervention she needs to help her body survive her ailments ... so that hopefully, one day soon, Rachel will be able to play in her first snow flakes, as all puppies should.

Nadia ADOPTED! You'd never know it from her picture, but this incredibly sweet, happy-go-lucky girl nearly died from parvovirus just a few short weeks ago. Days of agonizing misery gave way to a triumphant recovery however, thanks to the support of FOTS.
With a spring in her step and a constant wiggle of her tail nubbin, Nadia greets every day and every person with a grin on her face, a sparkle to her eye, and all the attentiveness one could ask for. Social, loveable, and hopefully devoted to those who show her some attention,
Nadia will make an incredible companion to just about any family. CT & HB. Vet reference required. Nadia is in foster care, please email Erin to meet her!
Dobby is one tough cookie ... with one soft heart! This little gal has spent the last few weeks hobbling around the city streets with a broken hip until she was fortunate enough to be picked up by one of our wardens.
Because of the generosity of FOTS donors, Dobby was able to have her leg xrayed to see what and where the injury was and she just underwent surgery to fix her leg and provide her with some relief. Within just a few hours of surgery, Dobby was wiggling her little tail nubbin' to show her appreciation to those who had helped her get this far.
She is now recovering in a foster home and getting some extra TLC. Within just a few weeks, Dobby will be up for running and playing like all pups should and will make an excellent addition to someone's family. She is doing incredibly well and using her injured leg more and more each day.
This is Dobby at a recent fundraiser. She really enjoyed herself!

Emma is getting a second chance at a happy ending because of the generosity of foster parents, dedicated vets, and donations to FOTS. This sweet pup was found stray, hobbling around in her rear quarters after being smashed by a car, leaving her with multiple pelvic fractures. Her injuries were bad, but her stoic nature and sweet, gentle demeanor were even stronger. Emma is receiving the medical attention she needs to complete a full recovery and will be available for adoption around February 1st. She is looking forward to many years of romping with her new family and friends. CT & HB. Good with dogs, cats, and kids. Fenced yard and vet reference required. Pudding came to us as a lost dog with an old injury. Her leg had been fractured and left to heal very badly on its own.
Friends of the Shelter paid for her surgery to fix the old break and she is doing really well now.
Pudding is friendly, likes other dogs, housebroken and crate-trained. She's a little timid around new men until she gets to know them. Pudding would love a home willing to work with her and continue good socialization.
Donations are needed to pay for her x-rays, surgery and medical care.

An absolute sweetheart who has had a rough first year ... but we are promising her many smooth years ahead! Darcy was most likely beaten as a puppy which resulted in a fracture of her scapula (shoulder) which has since healed on its own, leaving one front leg shorter than the other. Thanks to Friends of the Shelter, Darcy was able to be evaluated by a special orthopedic surgeon who believes that her injuries have not left her in any pain nor likened her to arthritis at her injury site in the future, only left her with the mechanical abnormality of one leg being shorter than another, making her look 'off balance' when she walks. Despite her past, Darcy still greets every day with awesome energy, loves to play with other dogs, ok with cats, and very gentle with people, often going 'belly up' for a rub and some affection. CT & HB. Vet reference required. Darcy is in foster care, please email Erin to meet her.

Sugar ADOPTED!
Sugar came from a loving home, one that almost literally loved her to death with all of the table scraps and other tasty treats.
She was triple the weight that she should be. Her owner meant well, but could not properly care for her. Sugar’s teeth are in bad shape, and she is lucky not to be diabetic. Her joints will also be at risk if she doesn’t slim down, and she was heartworm positive.
Sugar is a happy, bouncy sweetheart of a dog who deserves another chance for a truly loving and caring home.
Sugar is doing well with her treatment and has already lost 19 lbs!
Dirk is a happy, bouncy, playful boy who is READY for action! Dirk was hit by a car earlier this summer and suffered a broken leg, but has successfully healed and is primed for some fun. Georgia had a rough start- someone decided to dock her tail by wrapping it with a rubber band. She then ended up at the shelter as a stray with her tail rotting off her body, the rubber band embedded in her tail. Thanks to FOTS, we were able to amputate the tail and she has recovered without problem; her little nub wiggling at everyone she meets. She is good with dogs, is CT and working on HB. A wonderfully sweet, happy but initially shy gal who has lived a life of neglect up until this point. Found wandering the streets, infested with fleas, covered in a skin infection, and stricken with luxating patellas (bad knees) which left her every step full of pain, this little girl is still all wiggles and wags with even the slightest amount of attention shown to her. With help from Friends of the Shelter, Veronica is having her knees repaired so that her future steps will take less effort and be free of pain. CT & HB. Low maintenance. Looking for a calm, patient home to help her recover from her past and show her just how good life can be. Vet reference required.

Keri was a pathetic specimen of a Labrador and is in dire need of a diet. She was uncomfortable, had trouble getting around, and was easily winded. And yet, she is happy, sweet and eager to please.
Just like with people, dogs’ health can be seriously impacted by carrying around extra pounds. No doubt that her owners thought they were being nice by allowing her to eat all sorts of ‘people’ food, but they were in fact harming her.
Keri is now in a foster home, on a low calorie diet and working to slowly lose the weight. The extra weight has affected her knees and arthritis is setting in. She will need lifelong pain management to keep her feeling comfortable, but she is ready and willing to start a new, lighter life with someone.
