Special Needs Dogs Really Do Need Your Support!

Will you help?

Every year we rescue hundreds of nice dogs like these with special medical or treatment needs. They all have treatable illnesses that can be fixed with a little more time, money and TLC. However these expenses are not funded with public monies, so Friends of the Shelter contributes thousands of dollars each month for their care.

You can help by sponsoring one of these dogs to give it the chance for health and happiness that every dog deserves. Please donate to Friends of the Shelter! Your donations to FOTS are tax-deductible.

Thank you for supporting our Special Needs Dogs!!

Daisy is a wonderful companion, wanting nothing more than to lay beside you and keep you warm. Chug
ADOPTED!!

He's the little engine that could ... This very special little guy was born with some severe birth defects (the most obvious being his missing right front leg) and then was stricken with a life threatening case of 'puppy strangles' but through it all, he thought he could and he did.

As Chug continues to grow, he struggles but learns to adapt to his limitations but never misses an opportunity to rough and tumble with his canine brothers and sisters, he LOVES to chew on his toys, and when he finally tuckers out, he is a great snuggle bug.  CT & nearly HB.  Experience and a good vet reference required.

Rudy
ADOPTED!!

Rudy is a fun, loving, eager to please snuggle bug who's had a bit of a rough few weeks ... he messed with the wrong spider and got bit, resulting in a severe reaction that left him in pretty bad shape.

Lucky for Rudy, he had an extra special foster mom who was on top of things from the first sign of puffiness and he was able to receive the medical attention he needed to get well again.  Although his hair is still a little thin around the muzzle, his spirit is no worse for wear and he is ready to find a forever home of his own!

Rudy is working on CT & HB.  Established full service vet reference required.

Elle
ADOPTED!!

A sometimes shy but very sweet little gal who's had more than her share of pain in her short life.  Elle came to us as a stray, hobbling around on a rear leg that was broken at some point. The fracture has since healed without intervention due to her previous owner's neglect, thereby leaving her with shortening of her leg and a mildly deformed ankle.  With the guidance of an orthopedic surgeon, Elle has been given the ‘all clear’ for adoption as there is nothing that can be or needs done to correct her past injury other than letting her be a puppy, enjoy life, and be smothered with love.

Elle is CT, working on HB, loves to play with others and is a great snuggler.  Vet reference required.

Elle is in foster care, please email Erin to meet her!

Ivy is not your typical JRT, she'd rather snuggle than run, she keeps all four feet on the ground most of the time, and enjoys the company of most other dogs.

This beautiful, sweet girl has fully recovered from a bad car accident which left her with a badly broken pelvis and lots of pain. Fortunately for Ivy, her fractures were in places that, with time, have healed and allowed her to have a good quality of life for many years to come. She's been a trooper from the start and always grateful for whatever help is given to her.

Ivy is very social but would be very content as your only; definitely no cats, please!  CT & HB. Ivy is in foster care, please email Erin to meet her!

Hank
ADOPTED!!

You'd never know by looking at him now that this cute little guy was once a big matted hair ball who was brought to the shelter by a good samaritan who found him struggling to walk because his legs were literally matted together. And to make matters worse, it appears someone may have tried to 'free' him from his hair matts, only to sever the Achilles tendon of his right rear foot, leaving him with a 1 1/2 inch gaping wound which subsequently became severely infected and was 'treated' by duct taping the leg from knee to toes to prevent him from 'chewing off his leg.' And through all this and the intense grooming and wound debriding that ensued once he arrived at the shelter, Hank never uttered a sound of dissent or an ounce of distress as the shelter medical staff worked to give him a chance at a new life.
So here he is now, a wonderfully social, affectionate, attentive guy with only a 'flat foot' to tell of his horrific past of neglect. CT, HB, and always pleasant to be around. Vet reference required.
