BarkPark Raises $6,000 for New Senior Program

A one-day fundraiser at the popular BarkPark netted more than $6,000 for a new program benefitting low-income older adults with pets in Franklin County.  The shelter is developing the program to address the need for assistance among older adults who are having financial difficulty providing adequate food and medical care for their pets.

Case workers at the Franklin County Office On Aging are working with the Franklin County Dog Shelter to create the program.  Many seniors and shut-ins who receive meals at home frequently sacrifice their own nutritional needs in order to share their own meals with their beloved pets.

The companionship of pet can dramatically improve the health and quality of life of an older adult.  This program will provide assistance so older adults do not have to choose between paying for daily living expenses and prescription drugs, and caring for their pets.

BarkPark is a 501c3 nonprofit, all-volunteer organization established to raise money for homeless animals.
