This link will take you to the NIMS Training Section of the Federal Emergency Management Agency's website.

Another way of reaching this site would be to go to FEMA's website at http://www.fema.gov. Once you are here, click on the "Education and Training" tab located at the top, middle of the page. You should now be on a page that says "Emergency Personnel". Once here, look for the "Information and Courses for Emergency Personnel" section and click on the link labeled "NIMS Training."

If you scroll down to the bottom of the page, you will see a bulleted list that looks like this:

The security FEMA provides on the EMI Independent Study Courses requires Netscape version 4.76 or above, or Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 or above. Both browsers are available as free downloads by clicking the links above.

• Interactive Web-based Course - New This interactive web-based course is located in the National Emergency Training Center Virtual Campus at another location. When you click the link above, you will be routed to that location. If you have not registered at the Virtual Campus before, you need to hit the "New Student" button when it appears and follow the instructions. Once you are registered, you can select "Course Catalog" at the top of the screen and then select "IS-700" from the list. Please visit important information to see how to use the Virtual Campus.

The preferred way of receiving the training is to take the online course. If you wish to take the online course, simply click on the bullet labeled "Interactive Web-based Course." This course takes approximately 45 minutes to three hours complete. If you log out off the course before finishing it, you will have to repeat the entire course when you log back in. You are able to stay logged into the course for days, so it would be to your advantage not to log out before you have completed the course.

If you do not wish to take the web based course, you may download the Self-Study Guide by clicking on the bullet labeled "Printable Version of IS700 (Self Study Guide)." You can also download the final exam questions by clicking on the bullet labeled "Download Final Exam Questions." When you are ready to take the final exam, simply click on the bullet labeled "Take Final Exam." This link will take you to the same exam given in the online course described above.

When you have completed the final exam, you will register your personal information. You will be notified (usually by the next day) if you have passed the course. A certificate will be sent to you, which usually takes 4-6 weeks to receive.
