COMMISSIONERS UNANIMOUSLY ELECT 2010 BOARD PRESIDENT

Today, the Franklin County Board of Commissioners elected John O'Grady to serve as the 2010 Board President. Commissioner O'Grady received the unanimous support of his colleagues in a vote during the Board's annual organizational meeting.

As President, Commissioner O'Grady will lead the three-member board, which includes Commissioner Marilyn Brown and Commissioner Paula Brooks.

O'Grady was elected to his first term as a county commissioner in November 2008, after serving for 8 years as Franklin County Clerk of Courts. During his tenure as Clerk, Commissioner O'Grady was active in the Ohio Clerk of Courts Association (OCCA). In addition, he was a member of the OCCA's Dealer Relations, Program, Court Technology and Certification committees; as well as serving as co-chair of the Education committee for several years.

Commissioner O'Grady began his career in public service with State Treasurer Mary Ellen Withrow, who later served as Treasurer of the United States. John worked for several years as Treasurer Withrow's Administrative Assistant and Liaison.

"Franklin County is a great place to work, live and raise a family," O'Grady said. "I'm proud to serve as a Franklin County Commissioner and I'm honored to be elected Board President. As our local economy begins to emerge from the recession, we must continue to focus on building strong jobs for our residents and supporting local businesses. I know many families are still struggling to make ends meet and we will remain committed to providing safety net services for our community, while moving Franklin County forward."

"I am looking forward to Commissioner O'Grady's leadership in the coming year," said Commissioner Marilyn Brown. "His management experience and common sense approach to addressing challenges we face as a community will benefit all of Franklin County."

"It was an honor to serve as President of the Board in 2009. I am confident Commissioner O'Grady's public service experience will prove valuable as he takes on the role of Board President," said Commissioner Brooks
