Commission Board President Marilyn Brown accepts the Weight Watchers Award from Linda Holmes Corporate Account Manager of Weight Watchers of Central Ohio. The two are joined by participants of the County’s At Work Program.
Franklin County’s employees are 1,000 pounds lighter thanks to a program sponsored by the commissioners and Weight Watchers. County employees recently won an award for shedding 1,000 combined pounds in 2007 when they participated in the Weight Watchers At Work Program. The group lost the weight by portion control, and eating foods approved by Weight Watchers.
Franklin County Board President Marilyn Brown accepted the award for the county and was elated that the employees stayed committed to their goal. “The Weight Watchers program allows our employees to commit to better eating habits and healthier lifestyles,” stated Brown. “This program has helped so many reach their personal goal while giving them self-esteem and pride.”
The At Work Program had over 65 workers contribute to the weight loss, in fact four workers lost over 30 pounds and the biggest loser lost 90 pounds. Membership has grown from 25 participants in December 2006 to 65 participants in December 2007.
“This award really belongs to those employees who joined Weight Watchers and committed themselves to a healthier lifestyle,” said Commissioner Mary Jo Kilroy. “I am proud to have brought this program to the county. Peer support works, and it would be great to expand this program to include our partnerships with other organizations like health centers and settlement houses. It can help to address the high incidence of diabetes in our community.”
“Congratulations to the folks who participated in the At Work Program for keeping their eyes on the prize of a healthier life!” stated Commissioner Paula Brooks. “This effort will benefit both county employees and their families by reducing diseases related to obesity.”
The 10 week plan offered participants a choice of either the Weight Watchers core plan that provides a list of healthy foods, or the flex plan that counts calories and fat intake with their popular Points Food System. They also focused on the eight healthy guidelines, and nutrition.
“Weight Watchers of Central Ohio is thrilled with the participation and the 1,000 pounds of weight loss that represents the success of the members this past year,” stated Linda Holmes, Corporate Account Manager of Weight Watchers of Central Ohio.
