Today, the Franklin County Board of Commissioners unanimously elected Marilyn Brown to serve as the 2008 Board President.
Commissioner Brown was elected to the Commission in November 2006 and began her first term in January 2007. Over the past year, she has helped lead the county’s efforts for sustainable growth and intergovernmental cooperation ensuring Franklin County is a quality place to work and live for residents, families, seniors and veterans.
Commissioner Mary Jo Kilroy noted that Brown’s passion for public service and her extensive career of helping others are two qualities that will benefit the Board. “Each year this Board sets an ambitious agenda and 2008 will be no different. Marilyn’s experience in regional planning, economic and community development and her ability to foster a cooperative spirit will continue to benefit all of Franklin County.”
Commissioner Paula Brooks said she looked forward to working with her colleagues in the upcoming year to “ensure good jobs for our families, strengthen our local economy, enhance the safety and security of neighborhoods, protect the environment, and further enhance the status of our children.”
Commissioners also noted that Franklin County achieved many accomplishments in 2007 citing the groundbreaking of both Huntington Park and a new Franklin County Courthouse, the successful passage of the Senior Options Levy and a balanced and fiscally-responsible budget which kept the Commissioners’ promise and rolled-off a quarter-cent of the county’s sales tax.
Commissioner Brown thanked her colleagues for their support and acknowledged that it will take the entire Franklin County team in the upcoming year to meet and improve the needs of the community with limited resources.
“Being chosen by my colleagues to serve as this year’s Board president is a great privilege,” said Commissioner Brown. “I will continue the positive momentum at the Commission by forging new partnerships and building bridges with local non-profit organizations, the private sector and the state of Ohio to strengthen our services; everything from the safety and security of our communities to removing barriers for our residents to obtain jobs. We must also ensure that as we grow, we grow in a sustainable and accessible way.”
