WHAT: Following a series of meetings convened last year by Franklin County Commissioners to address and define how the rising foreclosure rate may affect families and local government operations, countywide elected officials and housing industry officials will tour three Franklin County neighborhoods hit hard by mortgage foreclosures. Non-profit housing leaders from Columbus Housing Partnership and Homes on the Hill will provide background and insight into the issues facing homeowners, neighborhoods and communities within Franklin County.

According to a study by Policy Matters Ohio, foreclosures in Ohio have increased 23.6% from 2005 to 2006 with more than 79,000 filings in 2006. The number of foreclosures is expected to increase in the next two years, as many adjustable rate mortgages with lower “teaser” rates are reset to higher interest rates and higher monthly payments.
