COLLEGE BOUND FOSTER KIDS BACK TO SCHOOL

WHAT:

Commissioners, Children Services and private partners will present Back to School gift cards to college-bound youth previously in foster care.

Franklin County Children Services Emancipation Department provides on-going services to willing youth who have aged out of the foster care system. The Emancipation Program currently has 59 kids who will be attending college this fall. Students will attend Central State, Columbus State, University of Toledo, Ohio State University-Marion, Owens Community College, Shawnee State University, Ohio University, Bowling Green State University, Marion Tech, University of Akron, Blufton University, Kaplan, Hocking College, Ohio State School of Cosmetology, DeVry University, Ohio State University-Mansfield, C-Tech and the United States Military.

During a recognition ceremony, youth will receive gift cards and items from Limited Brand stores, Easton Town Center, Kroger and offered a chance to shop after the ceremony.

As part of the Emancipation program, these students have received help accessing funds that provide them with items such as computers, sheets and towels for their first year as college students. Students also receive assistance to access funds that pay partial tuition and staff arrange for host homes for the students coming home for the holidays.

Due to inclement weather the event will be held in the interior fountain stage area of Easton Town Center.
