Franklin County Commissioners Remember Local Veterans
On Wednesday, our nation will pause in recognition of Veterans Day. It is a time to acknowledge America's men and women who have answered the call to duty throughout our nation's history. Currently, over 23 million veterans live in the United States with over 900,000 residing in Ohio.
As part of Franklin County's commitment to our veterans, in 2008 Commissioners approved funding for a Veterans Preventive Dental Program. The program covers the cost of basic dental services for honorably separated Franklin County veterans who meet income guidelines and program requirements. Dental services provided to the Veterans include dental cleanings, exams, x-rays and visit consultation.
In 2007, Commissioners were awarded with the Chairman's Above and Beyond Award, an acknowledgement intended to honor outstanding employers who have gone above and beyond the requirements of the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA).
"America stays strong because of our veterans' sacrifices, and I am proud to have enhanced Veterans Services funding," said Commissioner Paula Brooks. "From the American Revolution to the current conflict in Afghanistan, we must all thank America’s sons and daughters who have worn the uniform of the USA. As a former Defense Advisor to the Secretary of Defense, I am keenly appreciative of both our veterans and their families. God bless them and God bless America."
"On this day of remembrance, my thoughts go to the men and women from Franklin County currently serving overseas and their families here at home, awaiting their safe return. We thank our troops for their brave service and unwavering patriotism," said Commissioner Marilyn Brown.
"Our Franklin County veterans should be applauded for their contributions and continued commitment to our community and the nation. As we remember the fallen heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country, we must also ensure that all members of our community understand and appreciate the meaning of this important day," said Commissioner John O'Grady.
