Today, Franklin County Commissioners approved two resolutions with Complete General Construction Company, and Gilbane Building Company for the mass excavation and reimbursable construction services associated with the new Franklin County Courthouse.
The first resolution approved was a contract with Complete General Construction Company for $921,190.00 for the mass excavation of the new courts building. This company met all Commissioners requirements to have a qualified contractor to perform the mass excavation, which includes demolition of the site and shoring and lagging for construction of the new courthouse. The second resolution approved was for a contract for $654,130.00 with Gilbane Building Company for reimbursable construction and service expenses associated with the new Franklin County Courthouse.
The agreement with Gilbane will provide a reimbursable expense allowance for required construction services including surveying, documents printing, temporary office trailer complex, field telephone services, office equipment and furnishings, field office utility charges, site fencing and fencing maintenance, postage courier service, and accounting expenses.
“I am pleased to see strong competitive bidding,” stated Commissioner Paula Brooks. “The project team is working well together to ensure high interest in bidding and rapid project movement.”
“This project is a very important investment for Franklin County and we are prepared to begin construction right away in order to keep on schedule so the judges and other key staff can move in and operate with space better suited to the courts current and future needs,” stated Commissioner Marilyn Brown.,/
Located immediately north of the current Franklin County Complex, the new Courthouse will be situated on the lots bounded by Mound, High, Front and Main Streets and will seek the US Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification. The mass excavation is scheduled to begin as early as Nov. 15, 2007.
