Franklin County Commissioner Paula Brooks was installed by Governor Ted Strickland as the 2008 Second Vice President of the County Commissioners’ Association of Ohio (CCAO).
CCAO represents Ohio's eighty-seven Boards of County Commissioners and the Summit County Executive and Council. CCAO promotes best practices in county management and fiscal responsibility. The Association advocates on behalf of counties at the State and Federal levels concerning economic development, family and children’s programs and other programs administered by counties.
Brooks notes that in addition to advocacy, CCAO provides cost-effective cooperative purchase programs. Through CCAO, Franklin County taxpayers save over $200,000 each year in natural gas purchases.
Commissioner Paula Brooks noted that CCAO is a statewide resource to develop and promote state and regional economic development policies. “I am honored that my colleagues chose to continue my leadership to CCAO which benefits all of our citizens and residents of Franklin County. I look forward to working in this new capacity within CCAO to strengthen public policies that create jobs, protect the environment and help families and neighborhoods remain safe and secure.”
Elected to the Franklin County Board of Commissioners in November 2004, Brooks served as Secretary of the CCAO Board of Trustees and as Vice Chair of the Economic Development Committee in 2007.
As a member of the National Association of Counties' (NACo) Environment, Energy and Land Use Steering Committee for 2007, Brooks voted for the first-ever National Climate Change Resolution, which was adopted by the national counties organization.
