Last Tuesday, Commissioners unanimously approved $35,000 to support transportation services for youth enrolled in the Boys & Girls Club of Columbus’ Delinquency Prevention Initiative at the Milo-Grogan location.

Commission President Mary Jo Kilroy was pleased the county was able to step up to ensure those who in the past had used the Milo-Grogan facility weren’t left behind because of a lack of transportation while the facility is being renovated.

“Families depend upon the facility and its after-school programming and oftentimes are severely limited in their ability to transport the children to other centers. We are most willing to make sure that this isn’t an issue for them,” she said.

“It’s important these children receive the help they need and we will not let transportation impede,” said Commissioner Paula Brooks. “The programming provided by the Boys & Girls Club is critical in the development of these young lives.”

The resolution also approved funding for other Juvenile Justice Delinquency Prevention projects to implement prevention, education and treatment programs for youth residing in Franklin County.

Commissioner Marilyn Brown added, “This program and others like it offer significant support to those youth in our community who need it most. Whether it is providing after-school assistance, mentoring or intervention, these are vital services for our residents.”

The Boys & Girls club offers after-school snacks and meals, homework assistance and academic enrichment, character and leadership programming, along with delinquency prevention programming.
