Two New Vanpools Show Large Savings for Central Ohio Commuters
(Columbus-July 13, 2009) The Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission's (MORPC) RideSolutions program has added two new vanpools to its fleet for a total of 42 vanpools in central Ohio. The London to Columbus vanpool is a 7-passenger vanpool that travels the 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. commute. Each year, the London vanpool reduces 118,800 in miles traveled, saves over $12,000 in fuel costs and eliminates a half ton of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.
The Mansfield to Columbus vanpool is a 15-passenger that travels the 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. commute. The 15-passenger van annually saves over 554,000 in miles traveled, over $60,000 in fuel costs and approximately .88 tons of CO2 emissions.
"I am enjoying our new vanpool. I feel very fortunate that we were able to find such a great group of people to commute with everyday. The experience and support from MORPC has been super. They answered every question that I had (which was a lot). They made me feel comfortable in starting this new venture and put together a great package. Join up it's a great experience, "stated Jonathan Sanders, driver for the Mansfield vanpool.
