CENTRAL OHIO COMMUTERS SAVE WITH MARYSVILLE AND JOHNSTOWN VANPOOLS
(Columbus-August 3, 2009) The Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission's (MORPC) RideSolutions program has added two new vanpools to its fleet for a total of 44 vanpools in central Ohio. The Marysville to Columbus 15-passenger vanpool will reduce over 327,000 miles from our roadways annually, saves over $32,000 in fuel costs and eliminates over a half ton of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.
The Johnstown to Columbus 7-passenger vanpool will eliminate over 79,000 miles from our roadways annually, save over 3,000 gallons of fuel, over $7,000 in fuel costs per year and reduce approximately .13 tons of CO2 emissions.
"Because of the current high gas prices, vanpooling is a convenient, cheap way to travel. This is a great alternative to commuting to work and a way to get to know other folks from the Marysville area. Not only will this help environmentally, but it will save hundreds of dollars each month in gas for all of us and wear and tear on our personal vehicles. Truly a win-win situation," states Art Wollum, driver of the Marysville Vanpool.
RideSolutions is a program of Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission assisting commuters working in our 12 county region in choosing sustainable modes of transportation to their workplace. MORPC is currently celebrating its 40th Anniversary and its efforts to build a better central Ohio region.
