Landfill Fee Increase Effective Saturday
Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) solid waste disposal fees will increase by $1.25 a ton effective Saturday August 1, 2009. (The total state solid waste disposal fee effective 8/1/09 will be $4.75 a ton). This is a state mandated fee and not a fee increase by SWACO. This constitutes a pass through fee that will be collected by SWACO and forwarded to the Ohio EPA.
Effective Saturday, "in district" rates at SWACO's Franklin County Landfill will be $36.75 a ton (minimum $5.00 a ton). "Out of district" rates will be $37.25 a ton ($5.00 minimum). Fees at SWACO's three transfer stations will also increase by $1.25 a ton.
The $1.25 a ton increase from the Ohio EPA is part of the new State budget passed by the Ohio General Assembly and signed into law by Governor Ted Strickland. Of the $1.25 increase, $1.00 will be directed to the Ohio EPA Environmental Protection Fund, and twenty-five cents will go toward the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Soil and Water Conservation District fund.
