Green Power to Cut the Greens

SWACO's fleet of Green Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) vehicles has a new addition to the lineup. But this one gives new meaning to the phrase "covering a lot of ground." The new addition is a CNG powered lawnmower. The fuel for the lawnmower will be provide by SWACO's Green Energy center which turns landfill methane gas into CNG for vehicle fuel.

SWACO Director of Communications John Remy says the mower is actually a dual fuel product. (CNG/Gasoline). The "Hustler Super Z" was adapted for CNG use by the same Ohio company that has adapted four SWACO pickup trucks for dual fuel use.

When it comes to the more traditional style of CNG powered vehicles, The SWACO Board of Trustees has just okayed the purchase of a CNG powered packer truck. It will be put to use as a fifth truck for servicing SWACO's 200 drop off recycling centers. That brings to eight the number of CNG vehicles in the SWACO fleet. Another four pickup trucks are slated for conversion before the end of 2009.

SWACO's Green Energy Center turns Landfill Methane into Compressed Natural gas for vehicle fuel. Phase one of the facility has the capacity of 250,000 gasoline gallon equivalents of CNG annually.
