Bookkeeping

The Court Bookkeeping Department is charged with the responsibility of ensuring the accuracy of Court costs in pending cases. These costs are required by statute and go to offsetting the costs of running the Court as well as supporting other funds such as the shelter for domestic violence victims trust fund (Ohio Revised Code § 3113.34), the indigent guardianship fund (Ohio Revised Code § 2111.51), the putative father registry fund (Ohio Revised Code § 3107.062) and the computerization of the Court fund (Ohio Revised Code § 2101.062). The Bookkeeping Department monitors the bank accounts of the Court and ensures all fees are paid to the appropriate recipients.

Legal Practice in the Probate Court

Legal practice in the Probate Court is restricted by law to attorneys who are licensed by the Supreme Court of Ohio. Due to the complexity of the law and desire to avoid costly errors, most individuals who have filings before the Court are represented by an attorney. Court employees are prohibited by statute from practicing law and cannot give legal advice.
