Electronic Return Receipt

The Franklin County Probate Court is one of the first Courts in the State of Ohio to implement and automate the new cost saving Electronic Return Receipt (ERR) service process!

When an ERR is sent by the Court, a U.S. mail person will attempt delivery just as is done with a green card. Instead of having the recipient signing the green card, the recipient will sign a digital screen which is available to the Court in PDF format. The electronic return is automatically date/time stamped, and docketed in the Court’s case management system, and electronically sent to the Court’s document management system.

The use of Electronic Return Receipt saves money in that the ERR certified costs are approximately $1.20 less than green card certified mail. Having successfully been developed in Probate Court, other offices in Franklin County are now using ERR. Figures obtained from the Franklin County Mail Room indicate savings to the County could be as much as $161,000 per year.
