Real Estate

The Recorder accepts for recording those documents relating to real property transactions. In order for these documents to be accepted by our Recording Services Department, they must meet those requirements set by the ORC. Please review the Real Estate Recording Guide to ensure your document meets these requirements.

To record your document, you may visit the Recorder's Office or file through the mail. We ask that you include a self-addressed stamped envelope or the Recorder's Office will charge you postage to return the original document. The method of payment is by cash, check or money order only. Please make your check or money order payable to "Franklin County Recorder." We do not accept credit or debit cards. Uniform Commercial Code

The Recorder's Office files Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) statements effecting to real estate only. The Recorder's Office General Index Department also conducts UCC searches for titleholders and lending institutions.

Living Wills and Health Care Powers of Attorney

A Living Will allows a person to decide and document in advance, the type of care he or she would like to receive if he or she became permanently unconscious or terminally ill. The Health Care Power of Attorney enables you to select someone who can make decisions for you. The Recorder's Office will record these documents for you at a flat rate of $40.00 and will provide you with a laminated wallet-sized card.

DD214 Military Discharges

You can record your DD214 in the Recorder's Office at no charge for permanent public record. The Recorder's Office also provides certified copies and we can create a miniature for the veteran's wallet at no extra charge. Please click here for more information on Veterans Services.

Copies

You may request copies by mail or by visiting the Recorder's Office. If requesting by mail, include a self-addressed stamped envelope for return of the copies. By law, the Recorder charges $2.00 per page and $1.00 flat rate for certification.

Searching Public Records

The staff in our Customer Service Department is available to help you search public records. You may use this service by visiting the Recorder's Office or by calling the main number at (614) 462-3930. The staff in this area is not able to complete a title search for you, so you will need to contact a title company for that service.

Recorder's Services

According to the Ohio Revised Code (ORC), it is the duty of the County Recorder to record all deeds, mortgages, plats or other instruments of writing that are required or authorized by the ORC.

Not all public records are authorized for filing with the Recorder's Office. Please refer to the Services Information Guide if you are unsure where to file, or to obtain a copy, of a particular record.
