Services and Fees

The duties of the Recorder’s Office are very explicit by law regarding the recording and safekeeping of a multitude of valuable official records of ownership or legal activity requiring the security of legal recording. Such documents include deeds, mortgages, easements, plats, financing statements, releases, assignments, land contracts, condominiums and most liens. Records date back to the 1800s and are open to the public.

While the Recorder’s Office is your primary source for filing and real estate information, not all documents are filed with the Recorder and you may find that some of the information pertaining to real estate records that you may need is not available in this office. The Where Liens Are Filed and Real Estate Information indexes are provided here to guide you to the appropriate office for your filing and information needs.

This area is supported by a staff charged with the responsibility of aiding those searching, for a variety of reasons, for public information. Microfilm Center

The Recorder, by law, is also the Administrator of the County Microfilm Center and its operation, which serves all Franklin County government offices and agencies. Various documents, including those accepted by the Recorder’s office, are preserved here on microfiche and critiqued for accuracy. The master file is then stored for archival purposes in an off-site facility for safekeeping.
