Veteran Services
The Franklin County Recorder's Office encourages veterans to have their important military discharge documents recorded with our office for safekeeping. If the original is ever lost, damaged or destroyed, certified copies can always be retrieved from our office.
Original documents or Veterans Administration certified copies of discharge records, such as DD214 forms, are accepted for filing Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. After recording, you will receive a wallet-sized copy and a certified copy with the relevant recording information, along with your original document returned. At the time of recording, the social security number of the veteran will be redacted to prevent identity theft.
There is no cost to our veterans to record a military discharge record or to receive certified copies.
DD214 forms can be useful to veterans to prove eligibility for a number of services and benefits including:
- Identification
- Employment Applications
- V.A. Home Loans
- V.A. Hospital Services
- Student Loans
- Burial Benefits
Although veteran discharge records are considered public, for privacy reasons, the Franklin County Recorder does not place these records online.
