FAQ's

Q. When should I file for workers’ compensation benefits?
A. You should file if you suffer a physical injury in the course and scope of your
employment. Please contact your Program Administrator for information. Email Us

Q. How does the County pay its workers’ compensation costs?
A. Franklin County purchases workers’ compensation insurance from the State of Ohio. Under the County’s Workers’ Compensation System, the Risk Manager bills each County agency for the costs of all of its claims, and the agencies pay their own costs dollar for dollar.

Q. How do I file a claim?
A. If you suffer an injury in the course and scope of your employment, you (or your supervisor) should complete an Accident Report Form for Injured Employees (ARFIE) and submit this to your supervisor. The supervisor will complete his or her portion and fax or telephone the report to the County’s managed care organization (MCO), which will assign a claim number and process your claim. In the case of a life-threatening injury, employees should seek medical attention immediately.

Q. Where can I get a claim form?
A. You may get a claim form from either your supervisor, your agency’s personnel or safety department, or from this website.

Q. Where can I receive medical treatment?
A. You can seek medical treatment from any medical provider for the first visit only. After the first visit, you must be treated by a BWC certified provider. Please check with your medical provider(s) to make sure that the provider(s) is BWC certified.

Q. Does this affect my major medical health care benefits?
A. No, it does not at all. The major medical benefits plan is totally separate from the Workers’ Compensation Program.

Q. Will the County offer rehabilitation services for employees who suffer workplace injuries?
A. Injured employees are encouraged to take advantage of the County’s Transitional Duty Program. Under this Program, a disinterested certified rehabilitation counselor (CRC) works with the injured worker, his/her supervisor and his/her doctor to design a specialized return-to-work program based upon the injured workers’ temporary restrictions. To enroll in this Program, please contact your Program Administrator. Email Us

Q. What if I need surgery, diagnostic testing, medical equipment or extended physical therapy prior to returning to work?
A. Your medical provider can request these types of services from the County’s Managed Care Organization. The MCO manages the medical portion of the workers’ compensation claim.

Q. Are prescription medications for an allowed injury covered under the new self-insured plan?
A. Yes. The pharmacist will bill the BWC directly, or you can pay the pharmacist and seek reimbursement for the cost of the medication.
