Press Date: January 11, 2006

Treasurer Richard Cordray reminds taxpayers to add two cents postage to their real estate tax payment to ensure timely delivery by the January 20 deadline. “We don’t want to see people incur late payment penalties because they were tripped up by the postage rate increase on January 8,” said Cordray.

Since taking office, Cordray has offered taxpayers new payment options that eliminate the need for postage altogether. Payments may be made any time on-line by e-check, which is a free service. They can be made by credit card, for a 2.75% fee that covers the transaction costs charged by the processing company. Information is available on the Treasurer’s website at www.franklincountyohio.gov/treasurer. In addition, Treasurer Cordray’s office also offers taxpayers the convenience and certainty of annual, semi-annual, or monthly direct debit from their checking or savings accounts. Interest earned on monthly direct debit payments is now being credited for the taxpayer against the next round of real estate taxes. Further information may be obtained by calling 462-7516.

Payments may be made in person at the Treasurer’s Office on the 17th floor of the County Building at 373 South High Street weekdays from 8:00 am to 4:00 p.m. Check payments may be placed in a collection box in the Courthouse lobby any time of day or night. Checks placed there by 8:00 a.m. are treated as received on the previous day.

Taxes may also be paid at the branch offices of Bank One, Fifth Third Bank, First Community Bank, Huntington National Bank, National City Bank, Sky Bank, U.S. Bank and Prospect Bank. Most banks only allow payments by their customers.

Anyone who has not received a tax bill should call the Treasurer’s office at 462-3438.
