(Columbus) Franklin County Commissioner Paula Brooks will undergo a mammogram, cholesterol and bone density screenings during the annual Franklin County Health and Wellness Fair on Wednesday. Each year, the Franklin County Board of Health and the commissioners team up to provide free or low-cost screenings for the 7,000 employees of Franklin County government. Commissioner Brooks, whose own sister recently discovered that she had breast cancer during a self-examination, hopes that her participation in the screenings will inspire both employees and residents of the county to get serious about their health and sign up for annual screenings.

“Preventative and diagnostic measures save lives,” said Commissioner Brooks. “I encourage all employees to attend the fair and participate in these free and reduced-cost screenings because early detection is key to managing diseases such as cancer, osteoporosis and heart disease.”

Media is invited to accompany Commissioner Brooks during her cholesterol and bone density screenings. The Commissioner will begin her cholesterol screening at 10:20 a.m. and bone density screening at 10:30 a.m.
