The Franklin County Board of Commissioners recognized 25 members of the 2025-2026 Racial Equity Council, the third and largest cohort to date, for their year of service across county agencies.
REC is a cross-agency group that examines how county policies, programs, and services affect residents and identifies gaps in equity. This year's cohort expanded the council's work beyond internal conversations into direct community engagement, partnering with the Columbus Council on World Affairs to facilitate conversations with more than 200 students about issues in their communities.
For the second consecutive year, REC members partnered with the Domestic and Juvenile Court to serve teen parents at the Juvenile Intervention Center during the holiday period. Members also reviewed and shaped staff training initiatives that will be implemented this year.
Daisha Moss, a Case Manager Supervisor with Job and Family Services, said the council widened her perspective. "When I first joined, my lens was primarily focused on the African American community," Moss said. "Through months of learning and hard conversations, my lens has been widened to show that this is not just about one community. This is about human beings."
Emma Ginther, a Management Analyst with Early Learning Policy for the Board of Commissioners, said REC provides structure for learning and accountability across departments that might not otherwise work together.
