Prevention, Retention and Contingency (PRC)

Franklin County PRC emergency assistance programs provides one-time assistance and services to low-income families facing unexpected challenges. The goal is to help families stabilize and become self-sufficient.

Our emergency assistance helps our assisted groups address discrete crises lasting less than four months, including personal, community, or state-wide disasters like fire, natural disasters, and more.

Emergency Assistance

Emergency Assistance can help you cover:

  • Rent/mortgage
  • Security deposit
  • Utility assistance (except for the home heating source utility during months when the Winter Crisis Program is in operation)
  • Auto repairs and maintenance for work transportation
  • License/re-instatement
  • Home repairs
  • Bus passes for purposes of work, education, or job training (limited to four months)

Qualifying for Emergency Assistance

To qualify for Emergency Assistance, you must meet the following criteria.

  • Reside in Franklin County
  • Have at least one minor child, pregnant person, or non-custodial parent living in your home
  • Complete a Sustainability Determination
  • Have a gross household income at or below 175% of the Federal Poverty Level

Disaster Assistance

Disaster Assistance is available to eligible families who have sustained damage or losses as a result of a state-declared natural disaster or personal disaster such as a house fire or flood. Disaster Assistance can cover state-declared disasters, community disasters that affect ten or more housing units, or personal disasters.

Disaster Assistance can cover:

  • Household items
  • New or reconditioned essential furniture (bed frames, mattresses, dining room table, etc.)
  • Repair or purchasing of new appliances
  • Clothing
  • Baby Items
  • Household repairs
