County Advances Five Pedestrian Safety Projects in Blacklick Estates

Five road improvement projects are moving forward in Blacklick Estates after the Franklin County Board of Commissioners approved resolutions authorizing the County Engineer to prepare plans for each site. The projects are part of the county's 2025 Safe Routes to Schools program and focus on upgrading pedestrian infrastructure and ADA curb ramps near four elementary schools in Madison Township. 

The affected roads are Arnsby Road, Dunloe Road, Sedalia Drive, Madison School Drive, and Graystone Drive, and Sundale Road and Sundale Place South. Each improvement is designed to make walking to school safer for students and families in the area. 

Nick Soulas, presenting on behalf of County Engineer Adam Fowler, described the work as improving pedestrian infrastructure and crossing safety near Dunloe Elementary School, Madison Elementary School, and Dunwoody Elementary School. The resolutions approved April 14 are the second legislative step in the process, clearing the way for the engineer's office to move into planning and specifications. 

The Board voted unanimously to approve all five resolutions. 

The Safe Routes to Schools program is a national initiative that helps local governments fund infrastructure improvements designed to make it safer and easier for children to walk or bike to school. Franklin County's participation reflects the Board's ongoing investment in the safety of neighborhoods and the families that live in them.
