Franklin County Board of Commissioners
A busy intersection in New Albany is getting a significant safety upgrade. The Franklin County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously on April 21 to allocate $750,000 in County Motor Vehicle License Fee funds to the City of New Albany for improvements to the Walnut Street and Bevelheimer Road intersection.
The project, a collaboration between Franklin County and New Albany, will reconstruct a two-way stop-controlled intersection into a modern roundabout. Roundabouts are designed to reduce the severity of collisions by eliminating the high-speed crossing movements that cause the most serious crashes at conventional intersections.
County Motor Vehicle License Fee funds, collected at $5 per vehicle registration in Ohio, are distributed to local governments and road authorities to support transportation infrastructure. Franklin County routes these funds to municipalities and townships for qualifying road and intersection projects.
The project was presented by Nick Soulas on behalf of County Engineer Adam Fowler. The Board approved the preliminary allocation and final encumbrance of funds unanimously.
