Franklin County now has a formal plan for reducing roadway deaths and serious injuries, one built with input from public agencies and residents and tied to federal funding designed specifically for that purpose.
The Board of Commissioners voted unanimously on June 23, 2026, to approve Resolution 0412-26, adopting the Franklin County Safety Action Plan. The plan was developed with support from a consultant and funded through the United States Department of Transportation's Safe Streets and Roads for All program, a federal initiative that supports local and regional efforts to prevent roadway fatalities.
Nick Soulas, presenting on behalf of Franklin County Engineer Adam W. Fowler, told the board the plan involved input from public agencies, community stakeholders, and members of the public. The plan is intended to serve as the county's framework for improving transportation safety across all roadway users.
Beyond the plan itself, the approval positions the Engineer's Office to pursue additional federal, state, and local grants tied to roadway safety improvements. Those future applications would build on the priorities and strategies established in the Safety Action Plan.
