The Franklin County Board of Commissioners approved a $21,000 grant on June 23, 2026, to the Omega Lamp Foundation to expand academic support, mentorship, and scholarship programming for young people in Central Ohio.
The Board voted unanimously to approve Resolution 0428-26, authorizing a grant agreement through the Office of Economic Engagement and Community Development. The foundation is affiliated with the Mu Iota Graduate Chapter of The Ohio State University.
Through the Omega Lamp Scholarship Initiative, the foundation will award a minimum of 10 scholarships to high school seniors and college students pursuing post-secondary education. Scholarships are based on academic achievement, leadership potential, and financial need, with priority given to students from Central Ohio.
The grant also supports mentorship programming, connecting at least 30 youth with adult mentors focused on academic guidance, goal setting, and professional development. Educational workshops covering college readiness, career exploration, financial literacy, and life skills will serve at least 50 youth and family participants in collaboration with schools and community partners across the region.
Director Andrena Austin presented the resolution. The initiative aligns with Rise Together Blueprint Goals 1, 2, 3, 4, and 13.
