Weight Management Services

Weight management services – including weight loss medications and bariatric surgery – may be available under your pharmacy and medical benefits. Please consult with your physician regarding the appropriateness of these services. Specific criteria must be met and your physician will be required to submit clinical information to OptumRx and/or UnitedHealthcare in order for coverage to be approved for these services. If surgery is the right option for you, coverage is only available at a Center of Excellence (COE) facility. Services are subject to your deductible and specific criteria apply.

To assist members seeking weight loss through bariatric surgery, UHC/Optum’s Bariatric Resource Services (BRS) offers comprehensive support before, during and after surgery, increasing the potential for success. Enrollment in BRS is not mandatory to utilize the bariatric surgery benefits, however, it is strongly recommended in order to receive all benefits that are available to you.
