HOME Investment Partnerships (HOME) Program

The HOME program provides grants to state and local governments to help build or improve affordable housing for low-income households. These funds can be used to:

  • Buy homes or land
  • Build new homes
  • Fix up older homes
  • Help people rent or buy homes they can afford
  • Provide rental assistance directly to low-income people

The HOME program supports local communities by:

  • Giving people and neighborhoods the power to create housing plans that meet their own needs
  • Encouraging different groups—like governments and private businesses—to work together on affordable housing
  • Offering technical assistance to nonprofit housing organizations to build their internal capacity
  • Requiring local governments to contribute 25 cents for every $1 they get from the HOME program, which helps bring in more community support

In Franklin County, HOME funds have been used to:

  • Encourage the building and support of affordable homes and apartments
  • Help first-time homebuyers
  • Support projects that include buying land, building new homes, rebuilding or improving existing ones, and covering other costs like moving or construction loans
