Department Operations Update
January 2025: Please expect permit reviews to take at least (3) weeks, and expect email and voicemail responses to take at least five (5) days. If you have emailed or left a voicemail, please do not send follow-up emails or leave additional voicemails. We will respond as soon as we can.
Building Department
Update: The Economic Development & Planning (EDP) Building Department is back to normal operations for inspections. The office will be open by appointment only.
If you would like to schedule an appointment to sit down with someone, please call 614-525-3166.
Building, Electrical, and HVAC permits may be submitted online on our Permit Portal. Plumbing permits, private well, and septic approvals still need to be submitted and approved through the Franklin County Public Health Department.

Planning and Zoning
Update: Complete applications (i.e., Zoning Compliance, Variance, Conditional Use, Floodplain, Lot Split, and Annexation) and required application fees can be submitted via the following methods:
- By mail to 150 S. Front Street, FSL Suite 10, Columbus, OH 43215
- In person by appointment only
- Online through the Permit Portal for applications currently accepted electronically (Residential Zoning Compliance, Zoning Confirmation Letter)
No applications will be considered formally filed until processed by EDP staff.
If you have questions about permit or application requirements or general enquiries, please contact the most appropriate staff member identified below before visiting the office. Email is the preferred method of communication. Voicemails will be returned as quickly as possible.
